Rhet
What a great service this Easter morning. The highlight for me was seeing six people baptized. One young man (Rhet) was especially meaningful to me. Rhet “visited” our church for the first time about a month ago. His visit was a little unusual in that Rhet and his girlfriend were homeless and they slept under a covered space at our church. They came into the church during Sunday School to use the bathroom and some people offered them coffee and invited them to stick around for church. After church I talked with Rhet and he said, “People are so friendly here, I think we are going to sleep here every Saturday night and come to church in the morning.” Sure enough, the next Sunday Rhet showed up. A couple guys in our church took an interest in him. One took him out to lunch and got him some clothes and boots. Another offered him a job. Rhet found a place to live and is no longer homeless. Today he was baptized and expressed his appreciation to God for all that He had done. I couldn’t be prouder of our church and those who chose to share the love of Jesus in very practical ways to this young man in need.

Thank you for sharing this. It is an inspiring story that anybody who has ever been homeless can immediately identify with. When you are on the street, people who are genuinely friendly and selfless (no angle or motive) are uncommon. Most people don’t put any effort into involving themselves in the lives of others, this is especially true of people on the street. It is better to offer and involve yourself and be turned away, than to never offer and deny that person aid. Aid doesn’t always mean giving money or providing environment either. Sometimes its just somebody to cry to, or to receive information on where to find a hot meal. Your example of reaching out to that person may encourage them to also reach out to others in their life. I pray that Rhet is doing well and thriving in every way.
