Autumn is Here!
We have a new addition to our family. Her name is Autumn and she is 2 ½ years old. Her arrival in our home is really a story ten years in the making.
Ten years ago Dawn was pregnant with our fourth child but miscarried in her 2nd trimester. We were obviously upset but we remembered God’s promise to us in Romans 8:28 (NLT) “We know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.”
We believed that God would bring something good from our loss. Although we didn’t try to have any other children after the miscarriage, we did sense that God would give us opportunities to invite people into our home to fill that void. So we have kept our eyes open for opportunities. Six years ago, when my Grandfather passed away, we took in my Grandmother for four years and filled that void left by our miscarried child. After moving to Eugene in 2007, my grandmother move into a retirement facility leaving the place in our family vacant again. In April, Dawn returned from visiting family in Texas with the story of our niece’s two year old daughter who had been removed from her parent’s custody, and needed a permanent home. We saw this as another opportunity to use that vacant spot in our family to be a blessing to someone else. Five months later Autumn has come to be a part of our family. And although our main motivation was to be a blessing to her she has already blessed us!
